Background to Workshops

AIC is a highly developed and integrated approach to organizing that can be applied to anything from a fifteen minute meeting between two people to large scale international programs of development involving millions of people.

Appreciation, Influence and Control are the terms used to describe the three universal power relationships found in any system.

The primary feature of the AIC approach is that it allows organizers to identify, call upon and use all the power available to them to achieve their purposes. By personality, organizational function or culture we tend to overuse one of these power relationships and under-value the others.

Although the AIC process is built on the collective wisdom of many cultures and draws heavily on insight from modern sciences, application of AIC is very simple. Accumulative wisdom is built into the process itself. Long training and complex explanations are not necessary in order to use the AIC approach. More practice is better than more than more explanation. Our experience suggests that a critical level of learning is achieved after three cycles of AIC practice. At this point it seems a self-sustaining process takes over.

Based on this recent learning ODII has started a series of three workshops designed to create this self-sustaining process. Each of the workshops is complete in itself; each can be attended separately and in any sequence; and each covers the whole process of AIC. However each of the workshops has a unique emphasis on one of the three power relationships. Appreciation, Influence or Control.

Each of the three workshops uses simulation, role-playing, interactive discussion and multimedia presentations to enrich the assimilation process.

Those who wish to become fully versed in the AIC process attend all three workshops. For those who wish to introduce the AIC process to others, a certification program is now available.

The AIC Power Process
The
Individual Level

Purpose

This workshop is designed to introduce the AIC (Appreciation, Influence, Control) philosophy, model and process to you.

The particular emphasis of this workshop is to learn the process by applying it to your own work, career and life. What you learn, however will be applicable outside the workshop to the achievement of any purpose you, your organization, your family or community are pursuing. Future worships will focus at the level of the organization and the community.

This workshop makes extensive use of color as the multi-dimensional language of power. Your choice of colors reveals your unique pattern of power relationships, and your preference for appreciation, influence or control. The workshop validates this pattern by examining critical events from the past and then helps you develop a self-organizing pattern that automatically starts  improving your capacity to achieve your purposes.
